I realized that we haven’t talked much about the innovations that WordPress 6.6 will bring, which I gave the news about testing last week. For this reason, I wanted to briefly summarize the WordPress 6.6 features prepared by Mike Davey for you. The first and important change is the end of support for PHP 7.0 and PHP 7.1. After the update, the minimum version required to run WordPress will be PHP 7.2.24. Many changes are planned regarding themes and designs. What caught my attention the most were the color and typography options for the blocks. Tester Wanted for WooCommerce Under Construction Mode!
WordPress Bulletin Issue 4, is the addition of the under-construction feature to the plugin. Thanks to this feature, you will be able to add under construction mode to your WooCommerce store without needing an additional plugin. With the announcement made by the developer team here, they stated that they need testers to test this feature and report back.
30,000 WordPress Sites Affected by SQL Vulnerability
According to the news of Wordfence, one of the important security plugins, here Visualizer Approximately 30,000 WordPress sites using the plugin were affected by a SQL-related vulnerability. It is stated that the first patch was published 5 days after the error was first reported, and the last update to fix the error was published on May 13, 2024. It is stated that the error in the plug-in was made in an insecure manner when calling data to Visualizer’s tables and this code caused the disclosure.
No Downtime After Automatic Update!
Conflicts due to plugins or themes during WordPress updates can make your site unreachable. In addition, especially on shared servers, if the update process takes longer than the timeout period, your site may be locked in maintenance mode. Let me tell you the solution to this by the way; If you access your server and delete the .maintenance file in the main directory, you can take your site out of maintenance mode. This situation can also occur during automatic updates, and what’s worse is that if you have not placed a monitor on your site, you may not be aware of the outage. With the feature announced here and the plugin here, you can eliminate interruptions or conflicts experienced during automatic updates. Of course, you need to set this up before the interruption occurs, not after it, so that the action can be undone.

New Features for Developers from Google’s Artificial Intelligence Gemini
He mentioned ChatGPT in the last WordPress Newsletter. Google also published an announcement explaining the features of its artificial intelligence application Gemini that can be used by Web developers. The feature that impressed me the most is that it offers a direct solution to the error you receive in the Chrome console. Thus, you do not need to introduce the entire code or the area you are having problems with, as in ChatGPT. Although ChatGPT’s application will be able to read the code we wrote directly from the screen after it is released, but I think this is another debugging development. I’m excitedly waiting for the latest versions of both systems to be released!

The Gutenberg Mafia is After Me!
I think we revived the topic of Gutenberg editor after the newsletter we published last week and the publication we made with dear Barış Ünver. By Kadim Gültekin in this article it is explained why the Gutenberg editor was disliked and how he made peace with Gutenberg in his own story. As I wrote on Twitter, it is a convincing article in theory, but I believe its effect in practice is as I thought. In other words, doing a complex project with ACF is still a great convenience for both the developer and the user. To prove this, I challenged him to a duel. We will write a project scenario, I will dive headfirst into PHP 🙂 I will work with ACF, and Kadim will progress with Gutenberg. Afterwards, we will evaluate the project with the time spent and its features and see whose Gutenberg is WORSE 🙂 Kadim accepted this offer and we decided to do it as an event of WP Cafe.
